Buying A Home This Holiday Season? You Should!

By Molly Miller | November 15, 2019

Happy holidays to you! You are giving yourself the best present you can think of – a home! And what a wonderful time of the year to buy one. And not because everyone is so holly and jolly, either!

If you have been considering purchasing a home or have been in the market for some time, really look into buying a home this holiday season. No, you probably won’t be able to tie it up with a bow, but it sure is a smart financial and economic decision.

What a lot of people don’t realize is that the holidays are one of the least competitive times of the year. With everyone wanting to go out and buy loved ones presents, visiting family across the country, and getting ready for the impending doom of tax season – a large purchase like a house is the last thing on anyone’s mind. However, if you want the greatest deal on your dream home, you may want to consider to start planning on looking at houses this winter!

Because financial burdens can come into play by the end of the year, home sellers are overwhelmingly more motivated to sell their homes. Which means you could get a great deal, as homeowners tend to be eager to sell ASAP. This leads to sellers reducing the list price of their home just to get it sold. Not to mention, they’ll probably want to close quickly, too! Yay!

When you buy a home at the end of the year, you are also able to itemize some of the costs of moving (i.e. mortgage interest, etc.) and if you’re moving because of a job – even better! You will be in a better position to possibly get a nice little tax break!

You may also want to look at the swing and patterns interest rates are going through. When it comes to mortgages and loans, they go through processes like swing cycles. Typically around the holidays, they hit a lower point because fewer people are looking to borrow for such large purchases. Stay on top of that and ask your lender if you have any questions on what they may look like here in the next few months.

Frankly, there will always be more homes on the market come spring. That’s the way it has been and always will be. However, because that is a known trend and a popular time of year to buy/sell, you are going to have a ton of competition. The smallest factors will go into deciding between you and the Johnson’s who are looking at the same home. Buy in the winter and you have more of a chance to be the ones who get your perfect home.

The list of reasons why it is amazing to buy during the holiday season can be simplified into two key points: you’ll more than likely save a ton on your dream home and the competition is much less. Talk to your spouse, get to packing, and we’ll talk soon!
