Moultonborough, NH
Located in Carroll County, New Hampshire, Moultonborough is a small town of about 4,100 residents, and includes the census-designated place of Suissevale and the community of Lees Mill. Bounded by Lake Winnipesaukee in the southwest and Squam Lake in the northwest, it’s quietly situated in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region.
Moultonborough was chartered in 1763 by Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth, and at the time was described as being near the “Winnepisseoky Pond.” The first settlers of Motlonborough were grantees from Hampton, a town on New Hampshire’s Atlantic coast, among whom were at least sixteen Moultons, which is how the town got its name. One of the settlers, Colonel Jonathan Moulton, was considered to be one of the richest men in the province at the start of the American Revolution.
Incorporated in 1777, this magestic setting hosts a number of municipal parks, outdoor tennis courts, golf courses, museums, campgrounds, a beach and marina on the lake. It’s no wonder that the residents here are active outdoors year-round, participating in things like hunting, cross-country skiing, skating, swimming, tennis and golf. The idyllic lifestyle afforded by the natural beauty and small size of the town make Moltonborough an ideal place to call home.
Moultonborough School District has two schools serving the town: Central School, accommodating pre-school through 6th grade, and the Moultonborough Academy, serving grades 7 through 12.
Moultonborough Academy proudly boasts their 7th CollegeBoard’s AP District Honor Roll recognition, citing their top-performing advanced placement courses.
In addition to its own excellent academic program, Moultonborough Academy maintains a reciprocal agreement with Inter-Lakes High School in Meredith, allowing students to take courses at either school. Moultonborough Academy also has a Running Start partnership, which gives students the opportunity to take college courses in the Community College System of New Hampshire while completing the requirements for their high school graduation. Students earn college credits for these classes.
Moultonborough Academy also offers a full extra curricular program, and is home to the Panthers, a full competitive high school sporting program offering a number of teams for student athletes to participate on.
The town’s schools share the services of a school psychologist, speech and language pathologist, occupational therapist, and special education director, and each has a roster of top-notch educators.
